Miracle Bunny
I was driving my family home from dinner out the other night, when we came across what at first appeared to be a dead rabbit in the middle of the road.

My wife, Kristin, saw a couple other rabbits darting up to the dead rabbit to investigate. Most likely they were concerned family members. Taking a bit closer look herself, my wife thought she saw the dead rabbit move. Surprisingly, it was still alive!

We concluded the poor little guy must have just been hit by a vehicle. And though it appeared there wasn't much hope, we decided to pull our car over to help. The least we could do is move the rabbit over to the side of the road, to make certain it wouldn't be run over yet again. My wife hopped out of the car with her umbrella, walked over, and used the umbrella to nudge the rabbit. It lay motionless sprawled on its side, and simply wouldn't budge - even when nudged with the umbrella.

We decided to bring the rabbit home until we could figure out what to do with it. We were only a block away from our house, so we rushed over and brought back an old blanket and dog carrier to place the rabbit in. My wife picked up the rabbit's limp body in the blanket and placed it in the carrier. When we got home, we did some quick research over the Internet and concluded that the best thing to do was take the animal to our local Wildlife Rehabilitation Center asap. The problem was, they were already closed for the night!

...The rabbit was breathing rapidly, its eyes were buldging, and it had blood that appeared to be coming directly out of its mouth. It was still sprawled on its side, and apart from breathing wasn't moving at all. It certainly appeared to be dying. Kristin and I honestly didn't think the rabbit would survive through the night, let alone the next few hours. Unfortunately the Rehabilitation Center didn't open until 9 a.m. the next morning, so we could only hope it'd somehow be able to hold on until then.

My three young daughters, who'd been with my wife and I through this series of events, were obviously very concerned about the rabbit. At one point my youngest daughter, Tori, asked Jesus to "not let the bunny die."

We decided we'd keep the rabbit in a quiet, dark place for the night. So we brought it down to the basement, still in the dog carrier which made for a perfect temporary cage. At that point, as silly as it might sound to some, we decided to pray for the rabbit as a family. We simply prayed that God would take care of the rabbit through the night, and heal its wounds.

That night my wife and I had trouble sleeping. I've had some experience with injured animals in the past, and I was certain it'd take nothing short of a miracle for this rabbit to survive until morning. It was in terrible shape. We'd said a prayer, sure, and of course I know that God cares about even our smallest concerns. But some part of me just wasn't sure what his thoughts were about healing a wild rabbit, of all things! So Kristin and I were somewhat dreading waking up the next morning and having to explain to our girls why the rabbit didn't live.

The next morning, Kristin came up to our bedroom after having checked on the rabbit and informed me that, "Not only is it alive, it's sitting upright in 'bunny position' in its cage!"

I hurried downstairs to see what honestly looked to me to be a totally healthy little rabbit! No blood from its mouth. No buldging eyes. And it had obviously moved a significant amount, since it went from being wrapped in a blanket and laying on its side, to sitting perfectly upright. It was even twitching its little nose and had its ears perked up.

Wow!! We were all amazed by the rabbit's overnight recovery, a definite answer to prayer.

You want to know what I was reminded of by this experience?...
If we have faith - even faith as small as a mustard seed as the Bible says - God never fails us. He hears our prayers, and He answers us according to His perfect will!

He may not always answer in our timing, and the answer may not always be exactly what we're expecting. But there's no question that God is listening, and that He *wants* to bless us. We're His children, and He adores each one of us more than we can fathom - even more than we love our own children!

This experience was a great faith builder for our whole family. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that had we not prayed and asked for God's help in this situation, the rabbit would not have lived.

That morning we went ahead and took the rabbit to the Rehabilitation Center, where it will soon be released back to the wild, around the same general location where we found it. Hopefully it will be reunited with its family soon!
